RIMWalker v1.0

If you downloaded RIMWalker from the web, it is probably unregistered. If so, you will see the registration screen next. The unregistered version of RIMWalker has many features disabled. Specifically, you cannot delete records or databases and only the string view is available.  This doc however will talk about all the features of RIMWalker on the assumption it is registered. A registration code can be obtained from the web site where you downloaded the application from or by emailing Bill Foust.

The screen that you will see each time you use RIMWalker will be the database list screen. Here you can see a list of all of the databases which have been created on your pager as well as the number of records in them right now. Don’t be alarmed by all of the different databases on your pager, or by having databases that have 0 records. All of the applications that come with the pager create databases, which are normal. From this screen you can Open or Delete the selected database. If you think another application has created new records or databases in another thread, you can select Refresh, which will regenerate the list of databases. You should not have to use this item often.

When you Open a database, you are presented with a list of records in the database. The first few characters of each record are shown in the list as well as the total size of the record. The funny characters in the list are normal as well since most database records contain some binary information in them. The purpose for displaying some of the record is to give you an opportunity to identify records that you want to view in more detail. RIM databases do not have record numbers or any other “Primary Key” type of information in a more traditional database.

When viewing a record it defaults to a “Mixed View” which displays the data in the record in 3 columns.  The first column is the offset number of bytes, in hexadecimal, where the line starts. The last 2 columns show the same information in two different formats. The first column is a string representation of the data and the last column is a hexadecimal representation of the data. Its also possible to view the data in just a string representation or a hexadecimal representation. From this menu, you can delete this record or change the view.
